Felicia E. McGinty has been selected to become the new vice chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her appointment has been approved by the UC Regents and is effective beginning September 1. "I am delighted to welcome Felicia McGinty to the UC Santa Cruz campus," said UCSC Acting Chancellor George Blumenthal. "She brings to the position nearly two decades of professional experience in student affairs and a notable record of public service. She also has an impressive understanding of effective student recruitment and retention, student engagement, and strategic planning that will contribute to UCSC's success in the future." "The University of California, Santa Cruz, is an outstanding institution, and I'm proud to join the senior leadership team as the vice chancellor for Student Affairs," said McGinty. "I look forward to working collaboratively with the faculty, staff, and student body of this distinguished institution to enhance the student experience." McGinty comes to UCSC from Pennsylvania State University, where she served as associate vice president for Student Engagement. Prior to that, she was assistant vice president for Student Affairs at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County; director of New Student Experience at Montclair State University; and assistant director of the division of Student Services at Northern Arizona University. McGinty has held various leadership positions in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, and was recently part of a select group of senior administrators chosen to participate in Harvard University's Institute for Educational Management. Her academic credentials include a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, a master's in education counseling (with an emphasis on human relations), and a doctorate in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University. Earlier this year, that institution honored McGinty with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for outstanding service to the University and community. McGinty succeeds Jean Marie Scott, who has been serving as acting vice chancellor of student affairs; Scott resumes campus leadership as associate vice chancellor of Colleges and University Housing Services.
